Lulu demonstrated a good range of shotmaking as we completed the Short Game Handicap stations for the first time in 2006. Research by Dave Pelz [www.pelzgolf.com] shows these standard tests being completed by a range of players alongside their typical scores.

The leaderboard below makes interesting viewing and we examined the cards after the event to choose three skills most in need of attention for our next session!

The best scores recorded over the last few years in MLCGA sessions were around 90 I think? The best scores here today required lots of small adjustments to take account of the ground conditions, all within just a few shots! Excellent play was rewarded with points; 4 points for holing out, 2 points inside 3 feet, 1 point inside 6 feet.
Our leaderboard on the day:

  1. Lulu 63
  2. Bev 51
  3. Lorely 50
  4. Janice 50
  5. Sian 49
  6. Nicola 45
  7. Jessie 44
  8. Irene R 40
  9. Anne 40
  10. Liz 37
  11. Chia 36
  12. Jackie 36
  13. Lori 32
  14. Christine 30
  15. Irene L 20

Typical scores by LPGA Tour players would range from around 100 to 120. Take a look at the following link to see details of Dave Pelz’ Short Game Bible on amazon:

Now there are always questions about conditions, and whether to practise these shots before a scoring test, but it is important to understand that Tour Players would perform these shots in any conditions, adapting quickly to the environment and scoring well no matter what. A Tour Player’s favourite conditions are always the conditions on the day!
